Commercial and Private Extensions

What is built in

The repository has a rather simple security measure to protect extensions from download or installation by unauthorized people. Basically you need to do the following:

  • Change the type of the extension to Private or Commercial
  • Use the key button to go into the key list
  • Add keys for the people who shall be able to install
  • Send that key to the user so he can install the extension

It is up to you if a certain key is valid for a group of users, or each user (customer) gets his own key so you have more control over what releases can be installed by a certain customer. You can control the installation by number of installations, by the release date or by version number if needed.

Your users will have to enter the key when installing the extension from the TYPOlight backend. Downloading the package from typolight.org is not possible for commercial and private extensions, only installation from the backend is possible.

What you must provide yourself

  • A possibility to buy the key for your users. This could be a shop system, but for most cases a simple PayPal account will do.
  • Enter a link to the shop item or to your PayPal page in the language items of your extension release.
  • After receiving the payment create the key in the repository, and email it to your customer.
